Thank You to all Library Volunteers!
On April 16, the Library and Geneva Reads held a volunteer recognition event to honor another year of incredible support from volunteers. The Library recognized Cynthia Kiss and Barb Krauss as Volunteers of the Year, awarding them with a certificate and a new Geneva Public Library t-shirt.
During the ceremony, Library Director, Chris Finger noted that Kiss adopted a bookshelf at the library in 2012, when the program was begun and that Krauss is known to accept behind-the-scenes volunteer assignments that might go unfilled if she weren’t willing to handle them. Finger also spoke in broader terms about the volunteers’ impact.
“During our recent budget discussions with the public, I was asked if we could save money by getting volunteers to do some of the librarians’ work, so we could cut staff,” Finger said. “I explained that Civil Service regulations don’t allow that. Then, later, I got to thinking about the reverse situation: What would happen if I needed to replace volunteers with paid staff? As I thought about the jobs everyone in this room does, I realized how large our staff would have to be to do everything you do for us.”
From all of the staff of the Geneva Public Library, we thank everyone that gives their time, energy, and resources to the Library as a volunteer. Without you, there would be no Geneva Public Library.
