Library Selects Architectural Firm to Assist with Parking Lot Design and Master Plan
The Library has selected the architectural firm of Holmes, King, Kallquist, & Associates to help the Library plan for the demolition of the neighboring building it purchased in February and the design of a new parking lot on the property. In addition, over the next six months the firm will be working with the Library on the creation of a Master Plan for facility improvements to support reconfigured parking and existing/future library services. The master plan will incorporate the design of the new parking lot, along with feedback data collected through community surveys and operational statistics, to develop a document encompassing recommended future projects, concept floorplans and phased implementation plans.
Holmes, King, Kallquist, & Associates, an East Syracuse based Landscape Architectural and Land Planning firm, was selected from a group of fifteen proposals based on their fee and extensive history of working with libraries on design and planning projects. The firm is currently working with the Oneida Public Library on the construction of its new building. In 2004, it received an Outstanding Library Building Award from the New York Library Association for its work with the Fayetteville Free Library.
As part of the parking lot design process, the architectural firm will prepare several concept plans that will be publicly available for review before a final plan is selected. The Library’s expectation is to have a final parking lot site plan selected by July 23 in preparation for several New York State grant opportunities.
More information regarding the concept plans and the ultimate timeline for construction will be announced this summer. Anyone with questions is encouraged to attend the Library Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, June 26 at 5:00 PM or to contact Library Director Chris Finger at 315-789-5303, ext.106 or cfinger@pls-net.org.
