Demolition of the former Touhey Building
In September 2019, the Library contracted with the Empire Dismantling Corporation for Phase 1 of the Library's Parking Lot Construction Project. The phase encompasses the demolition of the former Touhey building and preparation of the site for construction of a new parking lot. Phase 1 was completed on April 21, 2020.
The Library's Board of Trustees and Building Committee is working to determine the start date for Phase 2 of the project, which encompasses the construction of the new parking lot (see plan image below). The New York State Pause Covid 19 guidelines and the Library's closure have pushed back the anticipated start time of the project. Additional communications regarding the construction timeline and disruptions to library services will be distributed via press releases to the Finger Lakes Times, special library newsletters, and the Library’s standard information outlets.
The Library received $244,668 in New York State Public Library Construction Grant funds to help fund the acquisition and demolition of the former Touhey building. We recently completed another NYS grant application for $104,343 towards the parking lot construction. Official approval of the grant request is expected in the summer of 2020. Project expenses not covered through the grants will be paid for with the Library’s reserve and gift funds.
If you have questions or concerns related to the building demolition and parking lot construction, please contact Library Director Chris Finger at cfinger@pls-net.org or 315-789-5303, ext.106.
