John Cromartie
Hello,
My name is John Cromartie and I am asking for your support in the upcoming Geneva Public Library trustee election on May 17, 2022. I am a longtime supporter of the library and its mission to “encourage young readers and provide access to the tools needed to find and evaluate information you need”. I strongly believe our library should serve the needs of the entire community and I am committed to helping the library achieve that goal. This is your library and I will work tirelessly for it to be the first and last stop you make when seeking information you want or need. The library has to remain an invaluable community resource that is more than a place to just borrow books. My commitment to making the Geneva Public Library even more of an awesome community resource is genuine and unwavering. If I am elected I will be a strong advocate working to make sure our library continues to provide quality service and programming for the Geneva Community. I am proud and honored to be a volunteer for the Geneva Public Library and I hope to get your vote on May 17th.
Thanks,
John Cromartie

I am seeking to serve on the Library’s Board of Trustees for a second full term. The Geneva Public Library is at the literal and metaphoric heart of Geneva; it is at the core of our community. Whether it is for the myriad children’s and youth programs, Musical Moments, or a host of other activities from genealogy research, technology tutoring, or simply checking out a good book, or providing a space for meetings, the Library represents the generosity of the community. During my first term as a trustee I have served on several committees, including the Long Range Planning Committee and the Building Committee; however, as a trustee my primary responsibility is to make sure the Library remains on fiscally solid ground.
While remaining fiscally sound is essential, answering to the ever-changing needs of the Geneva and Finger Lakes communities is also one of the charges of being a trustee. As a long-time resident of Geneva—my children were born here and, like so many, checked out stacks of books from the Library’s children’s room—it has been gratifying to participate in assisting the Library to grow and become more accessible (a new, safe parking lot, an expanding Spanish language collection, new bilingual staff), even in the face of a pandemic! I teach in the Africana Studies program at Hobart and William Smith and serve on several city committees. As a writer and a teacher, I cannot overstate the importance of libraries. They are the place for imagination, refuge, and hope.
