Library Honors Volunteers
On April 18, the Library and Geneva Reads held a Volunteer Appreciation Party to honor the many individuals who donated their time and resources in support of the mission of each organization. On hand were volunteers responsible for organizing bookshelves, preparing tax returns for patrons, preparing book sales, and many other essential services the Library provides. Library Director Chris Finger said of the Library’s dozens of volunteers, “The Library’s success and impactful role in the community is not possible without them.”
As part of the ceremony, the Library named the three 2018 Volunteers of the Year. Les Wood received the award for his role as the site manager for the AARP tax aide program, which provides free tax preparation for hundreds of patrons each year. Ashley Sheppard was awarded for her commitment to helping with youth and young adult activities at the library. Kristin DeVaney was honored for her work on the Library’s basket raffle committee, which helps to raise thousands of dollars for the Library in support of youth materials and programming.
If you are interested in volunteering at the library, there are volunteer opportunities year round at the library, from the Adopt-a-Shelf program to assisting with special events and projects. For more information, contact Library Assistant Theresa Osborne at 315-789-5303, ext.104.
